How to disable/turn off UAC (User Account Control) in Windows Vista & Windows 7

The User Account Control helps protect your computer but can be a bother at times. It can be very slow too for people with weaker computers. You will learn how to remove the UAC in Windows Vista or Windows 7. Be sure that your computer is free of any virus or malware before doing so though.

Windows Vista

To disable the UAC in Windows Vista, simply follow these steps.

  • Click on the Windows Icon
  • Click on the Control Panel
  • Type in UAC in the search box (up-right corner of your window)
  • Click on "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off"
  • Uncheck "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer"
  • Press OK
  • Reboot your computer when you're ready
That is all! UAC is now turned off on your computer.

Windows 7

To disable or change the UAC settings in Windows 7, simply follow these steps.

  • Click on the Windows Icon
  • Click on the Control Panel
  • Type in UAC in the search box (up-right corner of your window)
  • Click on "Change User Account Control settings"
  • Drag the slider down to either "Notify me when programs try to make changes to my computer" or to disable it completely
  • Reboot your computer when you're ready

UAC will now either pop dialogs less often or never depending on if you turned it off or not.
